My role
Senior Art Director, from story to final grade. I worked with Studio WTF as production partner and with Pilot and MMD Studios on talent. The campaign sat at the top of the funnel: awareness on TV and consideration in digital, for a category many viewers didn't know they could book.
Story and look
Developed the story with the Creative Director.
Developed the look and feel, including polaroid-style snapshots cut into the film. Some became transitions.
Art directed the branding system with the senior motion designer: location tags, title sequence, and the phone reveal at the end that shows the product.
Built every cut so brand and product land in the first two to three seconds.
Helped choose locations from the scouting list, so each spot read as personal to the twins and bookable on the platform.
On set in Los Angeles, May 2025
Solved problems on the spot with the crew, such as finding alternative locations for b-roll.
Reviewed scenes as we shot to make sure the edit would have what it needed.
Worked with styling and extras to keep every frame on-brand.
Briefed the photographer on wides and close-ups, big natural expressions and environment, plus stills designed to cut into the film.
Post-production
Gave feedback across numerous edits on cut, flow and build-up.
Owned color-grading feedback and gave input on music.
Working with talent meant tight shoot windows and two strong personalities. The job was to keep the brand visible without sanding off what makes Bill and Tom worth watching.
The film
The hero film. Bill and Tom take viewers through the city they've called home for over a decade: swan boats on Echo Park Lake, e-bikes along the Venice beachfront, a pink Jeep above the downtown skyline, and coffee among the bikers at Deus Venice. Snapshot-style stills punctuate the edit, location tags anchor each stop, and the film closes on the phone, showing where every spot can be booked.
Cutdown version: TV
20s. Built for linear and connected TV. The brand and the twins land in the opening seconds, with one clear message: their LA, bookable on GetYourGuide.
Social videos
Vertical cuts for socials, with German subtitles for sound-off viewing.
The idea
GetYourGuide sells something people don't always know they can book: experiences. The brief was to make that category feel exciting, not explanatory.
The answer came from the concept of letting real locals show their city. Bill and Tom Kaulitz are Tokio Hotel founders, stars of the Netflix series Kaulitz & Kaulitz and hosts of the podcast Kaulitz Hills. Germans have watched them build a life in Los Angeles.
They weren't playing tour guides. They were sharing their actual address book, from first-studio hangouts to late-night breakfast spots. That honesty made the product case on its own: every location in the film links to the Kaulitz Curated Collection, experiences on GetYourGuide that fans can book themselves.
Campaign stills
Photography by Alexander Schroer / Artvel Studios
One shoot fed the whole ecosystem. Some stills went straight into the film as polaroid-style frames and transitions; the rest became the backbone of the Explorer guide, the sweepstakes page, press and social.
Venice Beach on e-bikes
The twins ride side by side on the beach path, laughing, with Bill reaching across to Tom. The palms and sand keep the frame unmistakably LA.
Deus Ex Machina Venice
Coffee at Tom’s go-to biker café, shot wide enough to keep the real room around them: murals, pendant lights, locals at the next table. The orange mugs echo the brand.
Echo Park Lake
Shot past a swan boat in the foreground, so the twins drift into frame mid-lake, with the palms and hillside houses of Echo Park behind them.
Downtown at dusk
The same view the twins stumbled on, at blue hour. Office towers light up, and headlights climb the hill toward the camera.
Figueroa Terrace
A pink Jeep parked on a hilltop street, with the twins taking in the downtown skyline. The vehicle and the view tell the story without a word.
Venice Beach
The twins walk the shoreline, small against the waves and mountains, one pointing out something up the coast. A quiet beat between the busier scenes.
Beyond the film
The campaign ran wherever its audience already was. Linear and connected TV gave it reach, and YouTube and social carried the story further. Audio placements included radio, Spotify targeting of the twins' listeners, and host-read ads in their own podcast, Kaulitz Hills.
On-platform, the story continued in four places:
Kaulitz Curated Collection. The twins' favorite experiences, bookable on GetYourGuide.
Explorer guide. Their 12 must-dos in LA, written in their voice.
Audio tour. LA from the sofa, with the twins' stories and favorite songs.
Kaulitz Boulevard sweepstakes. Two LA trips worth €7,000 each.
Impact and press
